Good Job Everybody

Untitled - 4

We can be each other’s light in the dark …

I’m just getting around to hearing singer Alicia Key’s “Good Job”.  This post started off as way for me to selfishly play the song on an endless loop a coupla  hundred ol a day (you know how those songs do).

Written by Keys and her husband, Kasseem Dean (aka Swiss Beatz), the lyrics just lit me up the minute I heard them. Maybe because they remind me of my Mom when she would commend me on accomplishing a difficult task when I was growing up. It meant the world to me to hear her encouraging, “Good job, honey”.  She was also a nurse.

Man, who doesn’t need this song right now!?

If there does happen to be any extraterrestrials observing us, I’m sure they’re pretty impressed with the adaptability of Humans, although I don’t know if that’s a really good or really bad thing. It does seem to be how we’ve operated down through the ages though, doesn’t it?

We all just might make it.

You’re the engine that makes all things go

And you’re always in disguise, my hero
I see your light in the dark
Smile in my face when we all know it’s hard

There’s no way to ever pay you back
Bless your heart, know I love you for that
Honest and selfless
I don’t know if this helps it but

Good Job
You’re doing a good job, a good job
You’re doing a good job

Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah

You’re doing a good job, a good job
You’re doing a good job

Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah

Six in the morning
And soon as you walk through that door
Everyone needs you again
The world’s out of order

It’s not as sound
When you’re not around
All day on your feet
Hard to keep that energy I know

When it feels like the end of the road
You don’t let go
You just press forward

You’re the engine that makes all things go
Always in disguise, my hero
I see a light in the dark
Smile in my face
When we all know it’s hard

There’s no way to ever pay you back
Bless your heart
Know I love you for that
Honest and selfless
I don’t know if this helps it, but

Good Job
You’re doing a good job, a good job
You’re doing a good job

Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter

Yeah, it’s a good job
You’re doing a good job, a good job
You’re doing a good job

Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
matter matter

The Mothers
The Fathers
The Teachers that reach us
Strangers and friends
That show up in the end

From the bottom to the top
The Listeners that hear us
This is for you
You make me FEARLESS!

Don’t get too down
The world needs you now
Know that you matter
Matter matter yeah

Thank you.
